Summary:
Romantic drama set during World War II. In the early days of Nazi-occupied France, Lucile (Michelle Williams) waits to hear of news from her captive husband, whilst staying in the house of her overpowering mother-in-law (Kristin Scott Thomas). But as refugees fleeing Paris begin to arrive in the town, they are soon followed by German officers who take up posts and residence in the locals' homes. At first Lucile tries to avoid all attempts at contact with Bruno von Falk (Matthias Schoenaerts), their resident officer, but she is won over by the charming German and together the pair must face the repercussions of the inevitably engulfing war.
