Notes:
Although Hambledon is perceived as the birthplace of 'modern' cricket this book goes to show that not far from that village a paradigm existed in the New Forest that reflected the development of the game throughout England. The author has drawn upon his extensive knowledge of, and involvement with, cricket in Hampshire and elsewhere, painting a picture of its idiosyncratic ways and personalities that makes it more than just a game.
