Julian Thompson was Commander of 3 commando Brigade, which played an outstanding part in the successful outcome of the battle to recapture the Falklands. In No Picnic, a unique record of the train of events written by a key fighting participant, he describes with graphic clarity the strategic and tactical decisions facing him and his fellow commanders, the things which went wrong with both men and equipment, the narrow escapes, the appalling conditions - as well, of course, as the victories of the campaign, made possible by the brave actions of the men. Indeed, there is overwhelming evidence that without 3 Commando Brigade the war may not have been won, or at least only at a much greater cost.
